Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen loved playing rough sports as a young girl and excelled in athletics. This interest was combined with a natural talent for performance. Her talent was exemplified by receiving nearly every Feis award in drama or theatrical performing her country offered. When she turned 14 years old, she was admitted to the famed Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of performing in classical theatre as well as operatic singing. Charles Laughton was mesmerized after viewing a Maureen screen test. He became captivated by the beauty of her eyes. Laughton, along with his partner Erich Pommer changed Maureen FitzSimons title to "Maureen O'Hara", a slightly shorter name for the marquee. Then, they cast her as an actress in Jamaica Inn, (1939). Maureen FitzSimons' upcoming film (The Hunchback of Notre Dame - 1939) was to be filmed at RKO Pictures in America under a contract to Laughton. Maureen's contract with Laughton was bought by RKO following the epic film became a huge big success. Maureen was just 19 years old at the time she was starring alongside Laughton in two movies.
